Grief & Bereavement Counselling Online (UK)

Coping with loss can feel overwhelming.

Feelings of sadness, emptiness, anger or numbness can take over.

Some days may feel manageable, while others feel much heavier.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my grief and bereavement page. My name is Emma Newbury and I am a therapist providing online and telephone grief and bereavement therapy to adults in the UK.

Online Grief and Bereavement Therapy in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Life brings many challenges, and it is understandable that at times we might look for support in facing them.

One such challenge is grief, which is a natural, deeply human response to loss. It is most often associated with the death of a loved one, but can also be experienced after any significant change or separation.

Grief can affect every part of a person's life, including emotions, thoughts, physical health and relationships.

As a therapist my role is to provide space and guidance to help you talk about and process your grief, allowing you to move forward with it in a meaningful and manageable way.

Grief can show up in many ways- after all, we are all unique and handle things differently. You might be experiencing:

  • Intense sadness or waves of emotion
  • Numbness, feeling disconnected
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Changes in appetite
  • Guilt, anger or regret
  • Difficulties concentrating
  • Feeling lost, alone, or unsure how to move forward

Grief can also bring up other feelings or past experiences, which can make things feel even more overwhelming.

Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives, helping you move forward with your life, being able to live alongside your loss.

I work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, coming to me with a diverse range of problems. As a fully-qualified therapist I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their code of ethics.

How I can help

Therapy takes place in a safe space, where thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

Together, we can make sense of your thoughts and feelings.

We can explore your relationship with the person you lost.

I will help you process difficult emotions at your own pace.

I will help you find ways to cope with everyday life.

Over time

I will help you to adjust to life after loss.

Many people find that their feelings become easier to manage.

They begin to feel less alone in their grief.

They find ways of being able to carry their loss in a different way.

A gentle, compassionate approach

My approach is warm, empathic, supportive and most importantly, led by you.

There is no pressure to "move on" or feel a certain way. Grief is not a straightforward, linear process. Instead, we focus on what you need, in the moment.

Whether your loss is recent or from many years ago, your experience matters and deserves space.

What issues can grief therapy help with?

  • The loss of a loved one (recent or not)
  • The loss of a loved pet
  • Marriage or relationship separation
  • Redundancy or change of job
  • Unexpected life events
  • The loss of a life that could have been

Many life events can evoke similar feelings to those of grief. There is nothing you can't talk about in your sessions.

If you have experienced anything like this, get in touch. I offer a free initial consultation so you can ask questions and see if counselling feels right for you- no pressure- just a chat.

What to expect from online sessions

Sessions will take place online or over the phone, if you would prefer. This allows you to access support from wherever you feel most comfortable and without the inconvenience of having to travel.

We will begin with a free initial consultation which you can contact me about here.

You can tell me what you are or have been going through, and if it feels right, start working through your concerns in ongoing sessions.

You can share as much or as little as you feel able to.

About me

I am a BACP registered counsellor offering online and telephone counselling across the UK.

I understand how difficult it can be to talk about loss. It is very personal and unique to you. There may be others around you who don't fully understand what you're going through. It may be that the only people you have around you are others who have experienced the same loss, but whom you feel you can't talk to about it.

My aim is to give a space where you feel heard, supported, and able to grieve in your own way.

My location

I offer telephone and online sessions for clients in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, London, Manchester, Edinburgh and all of the UK via Zoom, Teams or WhatsApp video. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.

Fees & availability

Therapy sessions for individuals last up to 60 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis, and cost £50 per session. I also provide a limited number of spaces for those on low-income or for students; contact me to enquire about availability.

Note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 48 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment by bank transfer.
